Flox

Flox aka Hayley King is a New Zealand born and bred (west Auckland, I believe) artist and clothing designer. If you mention the name flox to most New Zealanders they wont know who you're talking about, however if you show (the city kids at least) an image of her spray art many will say it looks familiar. Littered like precious pieces of treasure around Auckland and Wellington are beautiful little gems of artwork. Power boxes, random alleyways and even the back of a Wellington bus are all places which are graced by this lady's beautiful artwork. I have even seen a commission piece where she sprayed a funky mural on one wall of someone's posh (probably Herne Bay) kitchen!

Anyway, I'm not in much of a writing mood today as a result of my hard weekend but here are some pretty pictures of Flox's work for you to browse. You can even go online and buy her prints at www.endemicworld.com

Dubsteppin'

So...in case you haven't noticed I'm an absolute fieeend for dubstep! It is one of my favourite genres of music and by far my favourite genre of electronic. It emerged onto the London scene about 10 years ago but as far as I'm aware didn't reach NZ shores until about 5 years ago (at least thats when my music-head mates got wind of it). Basically characterised by a 2-step rythm and hardcore bassey sound it is impossible not to dance to! Anyway, I thought I would post a popular track which I often play to people who haven't heard much dubstep before. There is sooo much more amazing stuff out there and I personally dont think this is the best track ever made track but I do what I can to get my mates listening to this shit and for some reason this track always seems to go down a hit. My fav dubstep DJ is a guy from Waiheke Island, New Zealand called Optimus Gryme. Check him out if you (like me) are into dubstep but I will be posting some of his work at some stage for sure. Anyway, here's Cragga-Mr Postman. Enjoy!

p.s. If you like this and are into popular music check out a guy called Mt Eden (just type mt eden dubstep into your you tube box thingy), he's mixed a few quite popular songs into dubstep tracks. Otherwise go straight to the good shit and check out Optimus Gryme, Skream, Benga, Distance...oh the list goes on. Yay for dubstep!

The Lizzie Is Back!

You may have noticed that I haven't blogged in a very long time! Well it is summer in this beautiful part of the world and I have been adventuring all around New Zealand discovering many nooks and crannies and places of beauty that I didnt even know existed! Lots of camping in out of the way places and of course, not much phone reception let alone internet access! And the holiday isnt over yet! I am off to a festival called splore shortly (http://www.splore.net/) and we will be road tripping back down to Wellington after that, all very exciting! So... my last blog wasnt the most exciting and I fear that this one is going the same way. Basically I just wanted to say that I'm pretty much back and will be blogging more regularly from now on. Some of the cool things I've discovered/cranked to this summer: Florence and the Machine (Florence Welch and her band, they are oozing talent and apparently all the cool kids are listening too!), futuristic fairies (I'll leave that one to your imaginations), My Best friends (not really of interest to anyone else but needed to mention), D.W.I.F.W (Doing what I fucken want! The result of being newly single!), many many music festivals, making garlands for my head! Oh much much more but my ride to Splore has just arrived.

So long sweet blog, see you next week!
